There is a winter weather advisory in effect, according to the National Weather Service, for Windsor County starting at noon on Tuesday and continuing until 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
In a winter weather watch issued Tuesday afternoon, the weather service said that there could be snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches on Thursday. The snow will turn to rain later in the day as temperatures inch closer to the forecast high of 40 degrees, he said.
Some freezing rain or sleet is possible early Tuesday.
Low pressure, with an elongated warm front, will approach the Great Lakes early Tuesday and move down the St. Lawrence Valley on Wednesday.
On the South Fork, temperatures are warming up, though rain is expected to fall over the next two days.
"Snow could be falling at a pretty good clip from right around 6 to around 9 in the morning". Timing.Pockets of freezing rain and sleet will linger into the evening, especially near the New Hampshire border. Rain is expected to tail off by 10 a.m. Wednesday, with some sunshine possibly peaking through in the afternoon, according to the weather service. High near 35. North wind 8 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 33 miles per hour.
Friday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 30° and 30% chance of light snow overnight heading into Saturday morning.
This may lead to a tricky Thursday morning commute for at least part of the Boston-New York-Philly-Baltimore-D.C. corridor where these higher snow rates briefly occur.
